In the past years, the marine biodiversity has declined drastically. An example can be found in the North Sea, where the native flat oyster is a currently endangered animal. Ensuring that marine life will thrive once again requires a helping hand. Mecal is contributing to this goal by focusing on restoring the oyster population.

In November 2024, we were allowed to test the stability of the Nodes in the test basin of Deltares, as a result of being one of the winning contenders of the SME challenge 2023. This was a proud moment for us as our hard work paid off, and external parties are now putting their trust in our product. Here, heavy hydrodynamic conditions were simulated, to a level that rarely occurs in the North Sea. The results show that our design behaves well in these sea conditions and can be safely added to scour protection, bringing us one step closer to helping create better marine life in wind farms!
